When God tells you to do something, He usually doesn't give you all of the details. All that He wants is for you to be obedient to His voice, and trust that He has already fully equipped you and made 100% provision for everything He has called you to do. As you take each step in obedience to Him, He will give you more steps to take...
The first major leap of faith we took together happened when we said our wedding vows in 2003, just three days after we met. The next major leap of faith came ten months later when we both quit our full-time jobs and Todd took one making commission only. We decided to do this before Kendra was born, because we both felt that God wanted us to experience the blessing of raising our own child, and not put her in daycare. Neither of our paychecks alone would have been enough, so we trusted that God would provide our needs through the commission-only job. He faithfully did.
We took another leap of faith when Kendra was just three weeks old, before Todd started his new job. We took a two-week trip, on very limited funds, first to South Carolina and then to Arizona to meet one another's families. Not only did God supply us with free airline tickets the day before we were supposed to leave by car, He also also made it so that there was more money in our pockets when we came back than when we first left. He has always provided our needs!
A new chapter is being written in our lives even as this is being written in January of 2007. We will be launching out "on faith" at the end of this month, leaving our home in Missouri, and going where ever the Lord leads us to go. How exciting! We have no idea what is in store for us, but are quite confident that we are following God's leading, and are running with the vision He has given us.
Right after making this decision, God opened some new doors for us, and we have invitations from churches in New Mexico and Texas, and South Carolina. We plan to go to Arizona first to visit family, and will then make our way to South Carolina to see our other family, stopping at the churches that have invited us along the way.
Appropriately enough, the first church we will be ministering at is called "New Beginnings" , in Hollister, Missouri. After that service we will pack up our car and be on our way.
We expect God to open new doors and arrange "divine appointments" with others as we go. We will be in South Carolina by March 1st, for a large men's conference that Todd is scheduled to speak at. After that, only the Lord knows where we will go. He hasn't told us yet, but we know He has a plan!
We are in the process of getting rid of all our "stuff", except for whatever clothes and instruments will fit in our car. We both have left everything behind before, and have come to the conclusion that "less is better"!
I never felt happier and freer than when I got rid of a houseful of "stuff", and all I had was a suitcase! In fact, about 5 years before Todd and I met, I got rid of everything I owned except for what would fit in my car, because I just felt like it was tying me down, and keeping me from pursuing the plans and purposes God had for me. I guess He was preparing me for this! Life is just so much easier and less complicated, and the thing is, God owns it ALL and He can give us more later. What a concept!
And it's not that we think we should be poor and own nothing. We're the Kings kids and should have the very best of everything! It's just that we don't care all that much about "owning" stuff right now, and feel a call to go and do whatever it takes to win souls and advance the Kingdom of God. We are ready to go wherever He leads. We have learned the secret of being content, and that the most joyful place to be is the center of God's will, where ever that is.
